Wine and roses, or tulips...

Our friends organized a wine dinner this spring where everyone brought different wine to try with a set menu. We are not big wine connoisseurs- at all- and bought something sparkling they told us would be good. The dinner was long and fun and the wine and food delicious- I love dinner parties. Okay, I love most parties but especially dinner parties and this was no exception. Three things stand out from that night- the pear and blue cheese tort they served with dessert and the v. fancy sweet wine that accompanied it and this simple and elegant centerpiece my friend had arranged in the crate of one of the wines. He took the crate to a little florist on Elston called the Chicago Flower Company and paid a fraction of what he would have paid at Wells St. florist. Isn't this beautiful? The mix of colors, textures and heights was perfect- not so big that you cannot see the person across from you and by no means skimpy. It looked great on a 60" (or was it 72"?) table and would also be so chic on a rectangular table or picnic table if you are dining al fresco. Bottoms up!

Xoxo,
Jenny
